The conference “The Jewish Text” in European Culture” is to take place in Latvia in November
The Institute of Comparative Studies of Daugavpils University (Latvia) organizes the Third international scientific conference “The Jewish Text” in European Culture” which will take place on November 21 - 22, 2011. The two previous conferences welcomed scientists from the Baltic States, Russia, Belarus, the Ukraine, Great Britain, Germany, and Israel. The organizers will be glad to meet you again and we also hope that new colleagues will join them on this event. During the conference it is planned to consider the issues connected with the specific character of Jewish history and culture, as well as the whole spectrum of problems related to the perception of Jewish culture by Europeans. The conference will be of an interdisciplinary character.
The following themes are suggested for the discussion:
- Reminiscences of the Bible in literature and art;
- "the Jewish text" in Latvian literature;
- historical transformation of "the Jewish text";
- Jewish myths and myths about Jews;
- Jewish images in literature;
- the phenomenon of Russian- Jewish literature.
The reports presented at the conference will be compiled into the volume of works by the Institute of Comparative Studies.
Conference languages: Latvian, English, Russian.
The report should not exceed 20 minutes. Applications (application form is attached) will be accepted by October 21, 2011 and will be considered by the Conference Steering Committee. Notification of acceptance: October 25, 2011
The question of financing of the conference is now being dealt with. Publication of papers delivered by participants holding Doctoral degree is free of charge. Participation fee for doctoral and master students is 10 Ls
