School on Jewish studies to be held in Georgia
School program comprises lectures by professors from Israel, Russia and Georgia on the History of the Jewish community in Georgia, Jewish-Christian relations, the study of ethnic and religious composition of Georgia, as well as seminars on Ethnography and Epigraphy. The field work will include interviews with local residents, religious leaders, representatives of the local Jewish community, as well as epigraphic study of Jewish cemeteries.
The results of the field work will be published in various printed materials (booklets, articles and reports), appear in videos and photos, articles and reports on conferences.
The school on Jewish Studies in Georgia is organized by Sefer in cooperation with the Institute of Ben-Zvi and Chais Center (Hebrew University in Jerusalem), with the support of Genesis Philanthropy Group (within the frameworks of the Charities Aid Foundation program “The Jewish Communities”) and the UJA Federation of NY.
We invite to participate students, graduates and young teachers (under 35 years), whose scientific interests include topics related to the study of the history and culture of the Jews of Georgia or the Jewish communities of the Caucasus range in general, and ethnic relations. Students will work in two groups: Epigraphy / Anthropology and Ethnic relations.
The organizers will cover School participants’ accommodation, meals and training.
