ANNOUNCEMENTS
Sefer Invites to Take Part in the XVIII Annual International Conference on Jewish Studies
Dear Colleagues,
Wishing you happy year 5771, and all the best things and sweets, we are glad to announce the preparation of the 18th Annual International Conference on Jewish Studies, which will be held on February, 1-3, 2011, in Moscow, so we kindly ask you to send us your applications.
In the coming year several dates important for Jewish culture and history will be celebrated, and we would like to emphasize them during the conference:
160th anniversary of Isaac Leib Peretz (1851–1915), a classic of Jewish literature;
Leah Goldberg’s (1911–1970) 100th anniversary;
a century ago died Daniel Khvolson (1819–1911), famous Russian orientalist, historian, linguist, hebraist;
in 1911, the notorious case of Menahem Mendel Beilis was initiated. We hope that this theme, as well as other related topics will be covered during the conference.
We also welcome issues covering Jewish-Christian relations within different periods that enable the interdisciplinary approach.
We plan the section on Russian-Jewish periodical press, also covering Jewish topics in non-Jewish press.
The planned section “Jewish Identity in the Contemporary World: Strategy and Tactics of Jewish Organizations” is intended to promote interest to the research of contemporary Jewry.
Please send us your application forms, theme and short summary of your presentation by November 1, 2010 (in accordance with the form given underneath) at sefer@sefer.ru (with the note annual).
Other organizational details will be provided in the confirmation letter, affirming that your presentation is included into the conference program. The letter will be delivered by the end of December 2010.
The organizers provide accommodation and meals for the conference participants from the CIS and Baltic States; however, the budget supposes no transport expenses reimbursement. We hope that your university/institution would be able to reimburse these expenses from the funds for business trips.
Full program of the conference will be published on our web-site after January 10, 2011.
The presentation time-limit is 20 minutes. The conference languages are Russian and English (no translation planned). The conference proceedings will be published.
We will be glad to see you at the conference!
