European Association of Israel Studies about 25th International Annual Conference on Jewish Studies
25th International Annual Conference on Jewish Studies, Moscow
Honorary President and Founder of the EAIS, Colin Shindler and Vice Chair, Joanna Dyduch, attended the 25th International Annual Conference on Jewish Studies in Moscow, from 4-6 February 2018.
The conference is run annually by SEFER Centre for University Teaching of Jewish Civilization. SEFER’s goals are to support academic research in Jewish studies and to improve the academic quality of teaching Jewish disciplines in universities and programs across the former Soviet Union; to provide academic assistance and a wide variety of study opportunities for students and young researches; and finally, to publish and widely distribute a series of publications focusing on academic Jewish study.
Although primarily a conference on Jewish studies, some papers that focussed on Israel Studies were given in several sessions under the title of ‘Israel’s 70th Anniversary’. This was also the first time that some of the sessions were held in English.
The conference was partnered by the Israel Institute, the European Association for Jewish Studies, and several other bodies.
