"’End Times’" in the Slavic and Jewish Cultural Traditions"

The conference "’End Times’" in the Slavic and Jewish Cultural Traditions" was held on December 7-9, 2022 at the Institute of Slavic Studies. The conference became the twenty-sixth in a series of annual meetings of scholars who have been working on the international project "Culture of the Slavs and the culture of Jews: dialogue, similarities, differences" since 1995. The project is carried out by the Center for Slavic-Jewish Studies of the Institute Slavic studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with various academic and public organizations that show interest in the dialogue of cultures. 45 scholars from Belarus, Germany, Latvia, Israel and Russia presented their papers.

The next conference from "The culture of the Slavs and the culture of the Jews: dialogue, similarities, differences" cycle, is devoted to eschatology as a significant part of cosmogony, literary and folk ideas about the "End Times", the End of the World and the signs foreshadowing it, about the coming of the Messiah and the Last Judgment, about the future fate of mankind.

The conference “‘End Times’ in the Slavic and Jewish Cultural Tradition” will be the twenty-sixth’s meeting of the researchers involved in the international project “The Culture of the Slavs and the Culture of the Jews: Dialogue, Similarities, Differences” since 1995. The project is carried out by the Center for Slavic-Judaic Studies, Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with various scientific and public organizations.

The conference is going to be interdisciplinary. Presentations by historians, philologists, folklorists and ethnographers, dedicated to the comparative aspects of the conference topic, are welcome.

Please send your applications, presentation titles and abstracts (up to 500 words) by October 18, 2022 through this form (in RUS):

The results will be announced by November 1st.

The organizers will consider the option of holding presentations via Zoom for non-resident participants. The Organizing Committee is not able to pay for the travel and accommodation of non-resident participants. The materials of the conference are supposed to be published in the annual "The Culture of the Slavs and the Culture of the Jews: Dialogue, Similarities, Differences".
