Holocaust in... Soviet cinema
Museum of Holocaust and Jewish Heritage together with Holocaust Research and Educational Center continue their lecture project "Unknown pages of History of the Holocaust and Russian Jews".
On September 7, 2010, in 7.00 p.m., Museum of Holocaust and Jewish Heritage in the Russian Jewish Congress Memorial Synagogue will host a guest of honour - Dr. Jeremy Hicks, famous British historian of the filmmaking (University of London , Queen Mary Colledge), who will give a lecture: "Depicture of the Holocaust in the Soviet Cinema of the Great Patriotic War Era".
There is a widespread opinion that there was no room for the Shoah history in Soviet films. However, there were several films made in the Great Patriotic War period that - to a certain extend - were holding scenes about tragic fate of Jews.
Dr. Hicks's lecture will be devoted to forgotten pages of history of Soviet and world filmmaking.
Address of the Memorial Synagogue: 53, Kutusovsky prospekt, Moscow (Memory Lane, Poklonnaya Hill). Phone: +7499 148-19-07. 10 a.m. 5 p.m. (Tue-Fri, Sun); +7-9169064998 (everyday, 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.)
