Ethnographic expedition to Israel, October 5-18, 2015

The expedition was organized together with the Institute of Slavic Studies (Russian Academy of Sciences) and supported by Russian Scientific Fund. 
The participant of the expedition worked in Jerusalem, Hod ha-Sharon, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Bat-Yam. During the expedition 50 interviews in Russian and in Yiddish given by were recorded. The interviewed people were the former inhabitants of Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Smolensk, Minsk, Kiev, Riga, Omsk, Vitebsk, Mogilev-Podolsky, Chashniki. They were born in the 1920s - 1940s. 
The central themes in the interviews are the narratives about family history, shtetl in the Second World War, Holocaust, evacuation, pre-war life, family stories about namegiving, Jewish cuisine and other subjects. 
The important feature of these interviews is the corpus of the narratives about the repatriation (aliyah) to Israel, adaptation to the new society, Russian language status and Hebrew, special function of Yiddish in the new environment.
