MOSCOW SUMMER SCHOOL ON JEWISH STUDIES 2014 

(JULY 13-17, 2014, 64 PARTICIPANTS)

Summer School on Jewish Studies organized by Sefer Center took a place on July, 13th – 17th , 2014 in “Golitsyno”, and after it 19th International Youth Conference on Jewish Studies was held on 18th of July in IAAS MSU. The school and conference were organized in partnership with Chais Center for Jewish Studies in Russian (Hebrew University of Jerusalem) and Polish Cultural Center in Moscow.

Summer School on Jewish Studies was held with financial support by Avi Chai Foundation, Genesis Philanthropy Group and Israel Cultural Center in Moscow.

In both school and conference took part 54 students and 10 lecturers from different countries:

-       Russia (MoscowSaint PetersburgKazan, Nizhnekamsk, Irkutsk, Kovrov, BryanskPerm, Samara, Ekaterinburg),

-       Ukraine (KievOdessa, Lugansk, Poltava),

-       Belarus (Minsk, Borisov),

-       Latvia (Riga),

-       Germany (Hildesheim),

-       USA (Chicago),

-       Israel (Jerusalem),

-       Poland (Poznan).

There were 3 thematic groups of the courses: Jews and War, Jews and Power, Reflection of the War and Power in the Culture and Art. Each group included 3courses.

Besides it program included workshop on making movie with Valentina Korablenikova. During the workshop a short movie dedicated to the theme of war was made, it is available here.

Also the students could take part in watching and discussing movies, lecture-degustation about beer (with Maxim Gammal) and intellectual game “What? WhereWhen?” (with Ilya Ber). The school was closed on 17th of July with the concert of Bubamara Brass Band.
